Bernie Joyce – President

Escaping the Land of Cleves: One of the few things Bernie has going for him is that he was smart enough to get the hell out of Cleveland. Yes, Bernie may represent the “dark-side” of HyperDrive, being both from Cleveland and the west-side of Cincinnati. (In 1978, he married Carolyn Doppes, a Mercy High grad from Cincinnati’s west-side. While he had no idea at the time, he sentenced himself to the west-side for life.) We embrace his “cultured” upbringing.

Our Fearless Leader: As our President, Bernie pounds the drum and sets the sails. With nearly 30 years of focused experience in all facets of direct marketing, Bernie is involved in all client activities and new business developments.

Brief History Lesson: In 1983, Bernie earned his MBA from the University of Cincinnati. He began his direct marketing career as Director of Marketing at Latonia Race Course (aka Turfway Park) where he pioneered a sophisticated and successful database marketing program – a decade before the personal computer. In 1986, he joined legendary direct mail leader, Yeck Brothers in Dayton, Ohio. There he worked on cutting-edge, award-winning programs for FedEx, Iams and 3M. In 1991, Bernie joined Martiny & Company, leading the Cincinnati-based general advertising agency into the world of direct marketing and rising to Senior VP by 1994. Bernie’s ground-breaking direct marketing work for Cintas, Cincom, and Heinz Pet Products won numerous awards and client praise for bottom line results. In 1999, Bernie was recruited by global leader, Harte-Hanks Direct Marketing, where he served as VP, Business Development through 2009.

The Evolution of Berndawg: Today, Bernie has a big head but he’s still a good guy. He’ll talk your ear off about direct marketing and how “that internet” has finally given us “real tools.” That, and how fortunate he was 20 years ago to cross professional paths with our CEO Dan Heimbrock.

Presidential Pastimes: Bernie’s hobbies include getting the daily news, all things sports, all things music and, while he doesn’t like to gamble, he loves a good bet. Bernie & Carolyn will forever live “on the west-side” and forever have three outstanding kids – Joey, Shannon and Megan.
